The REEC Proposals

THE PROPOSALS TO DATE

11187273_442455589254801_4341738796364666341_oRichmond upon Thames College, Richmond Council, Haymarket Group and Harlequins have proposed –

  • A large new residential estate with up to 200 flats and houses on the college site in Twickenham
  • All the extra residential motor vehicles would use Egerton Road, Court Way, Heathfield North/South and Whitton Road
  • Up to around 4,000 college students, school pupils and staff would use a route from Twickenham Station along a secluded new footpath/cycleway next to the River Crane
  • College and residential buildings to be up to five storeys in height
  • Plastic turf and fencing to cover much of the college’s field in Craneford Way.

WHAT THEY DIDN’T TELL YOU –

  • Richmond Council’s planning guidelines state that the maximum height of buildings across most of the college site is four storeys, not five.
  • The planning conditions for the new River Crane footpath / cycleway say it must be unlit and closed at dusk with automatic lockable gates , so it would be shut when students leave for home in the winter months.
  • RuT College has said it intends to allow use of the Craneford Way playing field in the evenings, but noise reduction measures have not been included in the published layout.

The community’s support for the scheme has plummeted from a narrow margin of 53% (March 2013) to only 22% in favour of the overall site plan and traffic proposals put forward in October last year. 66% of respondents were against those proposals.
